I am wearing the Betsy Utility Jacket Sewing Pattern and holding a bag that I hand sewed with Babylon Leather DIY kits.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME…
Origins
Contrary to what you might assume, I didn’t like sewing when I was first introduced at a young age. I was much too impatient. My mother is an incredible seamstress and made our entire family many items of clothing. It wasn’t until I was around 15 that I started to seriously consider fashion as a career path. I asked my mom to teach me again and I ended up making a bunch of creative projects with my grade 12 prom dress as my crowning achievement.
As highschool came to a close, I set my sights on the best Canadian Fashion School, then called Ryerson University. And to my great delight I was accepted. During my fashion studies and following employment I developed a love for creating beautiful, quality, functional and sustainable clothing. Having discovered my enjoyment of tutoring and with a long held penchant for entertaining I decided to combine them first into a fashion dedicated Instagram and soon after, a YouTube channel. I always enjoyed the pattern making process and soon realized I could share my designs and love for sewing with all of you by making my favourite styles available through PDF patterns. I learned how to use Illustrator for pattern making and after that, my life changed!! It was always my dream to work for my self in a creative, fashion related capacity, and thanks to those of you who view my content and buy my patterns, it is my current joyous reality!
My Inspiration and Process
I like to create patterns that are easy enough to make while being both unique in style and versatile: giving you lots of options to make my design your own. I am inspired by my own desire for ease of wear, uniqueness and comfortability. My design process often involves browsing through Pinterest, nature walks and a whole lot of sewing and fitting. Often I will have an idea for a garment, design, draft and sew it, only to find that it just isn’t giving the look I envisioned. These moments are frustrating but enlightening. Once I have done a few toiles and tweaks of a new design I get the pattern ready for public use. I then send out a call for pattern testers and have my patterns tested by sewers like you! Then I launch my pattern into the world with my comprehensive video tutorial and then I have the pleasure of seeing your joy in making and wearing it! It is a truly rewarding process and I am thankful to all of you who participate and support me!
I am so excited for what is to come! Thank you for supporting me on this journey!
